Getting To & From Christchurch City and Canterbury
Air: Christchurch International Airport
is the main airport servicing the Christchurch and Canterbury region with
both domestic and international air services available.
Christchurch International Aiport is 15-20 minutes drive from Christchurch
central city. There are several shuttle services between the central city
and the Airport.
Road: Intercity Coachline Services offers
scheduled service throughout the South Island. Other companies operate
shuttle services. The Great
Alpine Highway (SH73) is an important route from the East
Coast (Canterbury) of the South island to the West Coast. The Great Alpine
Highway is a region of diverse landscapes and climate, lakes, braided
rivers, natural beauty, unique townships, and provides magnificent views
of the Southern Alps.
Rail: Two rail services for the South Island
depart/arrive to/from Christchurch. They are:
- The TranzCoastal: a daily service between Picton
and Christchurch. Journey time: 5 hours 20 mins
- The TranzAlpine: a daily service between Christchurch
and Greymouth. Journey time: 4 hours 30 mins
