| The Speights Coast to Coast Race has been going for over 20 years and is one of the best known multisport events in New Zealand. The race starts at Kumara Beach (West Coast) and finsihes 243km later at Sumner Beach, Christchurch (East Coast). The race is two events in one. For elite competitors the race is a one day event, while for the majority of competitors it is a two event.
To complete the event competitors must cycle 140kms (3 stages of 55km, 15km and 70km), run 36km (including a 33km mountain run over Southern Alps) and kayak 67kms. There is $150,000 worth of prizes, plus all finishers receive a medal, a souvineer shirt and a cold can of Speight’s.
