Shopping in Dunedin
Shopping in Dunedin is relaxed and unhurried. There is a mix of national and chain stores, large
shopping malls and highly individual local stores.
The main shopping area is George Street in the city centre. There are also many suburban shops
and craft outlets, located in Mornington, the Gardens, South Dunedin and Mosgiel.
Dunedin's tourist shops include places like the New Zealand Shop in the Octagon and The Scottish
Shop on George St, which makes the connection with Dunedin's Scottish links.
Dunedin also has many speciality shops such as antique dealers, handmade homeware retailers,
galleries, exhibition spaces, artists workshops and clothing designer showrooms, all of which
give the city a cosmopolitan, vibrant mix of creativity.
As an evolving fashion Mecca for new and innovative designers, Dunedin hosts the annual ID Fashion
Show, which attracts visitors and media from other parts of New Zealand and Australia.
