Hiking

  • Milford Track: The four-day Milford Track (53.9km) is often described as the finest walk in the world through glaciated valleys, an alpine pass and breathtaking scenery.
  • Routeburn Track: The Routeburn Track (39km) starts from the divide between the eastern and western sides of the Southern Alps and ends three-four days later in the beech forests about 80 km from Queenstown.
  • Kepler Track: 60 km walk starting and finishing at Lake Te Anau. A 3 to 4 day trip. This track offers independent walks only.

Other Activities & Attractions

  • Milford Sound: Bottlenose dolphins, New Zealand fur seals and Fiordland crested penguins are resident in the fiord and can be viewed up close from launch cruises or kayak trips.
  • Hunting: The Fiordland regions is popular with recreational hunters looking for Red deer, Wapiti and Chamois. Anyone wishing to undertake hunting within the National Park must obtain a permit from the Department of Conservation.
