The Heaphy Track is classified as a walking track, and
is suitable for all fit, well-equipped hikers. All rivers and major streams
along the track are bridged. The Heaphy Track is 82 km in length and takes
four to six days to complete. The track is located in Kahurangi National
Park at the north-west corner of the South Island.
There are DOC huts and campsites along the track, where you can stay
for a small fee. While walking on the track you will view tussock downs,
lush forests, nikau palms and the wild coastline of the West Coast.
The track can be accessed from Collingwood in the Nelson region or Karamea
on the West Coast. These towns have information centres, petrol stations,
accommodation, cafés, and small supermarkets.
There are a range of transport options to and from the track, at both
ends, and from Nelson and Greymouth and Westport..
Heaphy Track transport is one of Helicopter Charter Karamea’s specialities. A helicopter flight from Karamea to the northern end of the Heaphy Track takes a mere 20 minutes. Our Robinson R44 Helicopter is the fastest and most exciting way to access the mountains, rivers and spectacular coastline of the Kahurangi National Park and West Coast of New Zealand. Helicopter Charter Karamea undertakes a full range of commercial work New Zealand wide, including (but certainly not limited to): Lifting, Aerial surveys, Filming & Photography, Search & Rescue and Remote Area access.
