Greymouth is the largest town, and commerical centre of the West Coast. Greymouth is ideally located to visit many of the West Coast main attractions. Lake Brunner, Blackball, Hokitika, Punakaiki are a half hour drive or less from Greymouth.

There is a range of quality motel and backpacker accommodation in Greymouth, there is also a number of bed and breakfast, hotels, and lodges located in the town. When it comes to dining in Greymouth there are a plenty of cafes and restaurants. Greymouth is a good place to stock up on supplies or to pick up some souvenirs of your trip to the West Coast. There is a very good Visitor Centre in Greymouth which is open 7 days a week. It possible to get money from ATMs and banks in the town centre, and there are several internet cafes.
There is a wide range of outdoor activities available in Greymouth or nearby. It is possible to go hiking, canoeing, river and cave rafting, 4WD, mountain biking, dolphin and seal watching tours, caving, surfing, and gold panning. The Point Elizabeth Walk Way (see photo above) is a superb coastal track with great views and stunning native forest. One of the best know attractions is Shanytown, a replica gold-town from the late 1800's. There is also the Monteith's Brewery tour and several galleries and museums to visit.
